I'm an American designer who crocheted a lacy spring scarf with white Safran and compared it side-by-side with Patons Grace, which is the most widely-available lightweight cotton yarn in the US and Canada. In case it helps others, one can pretty much be substituted for the other. Safran comes out a bit softer, slightly thicker, and more matte. Grace is denser (therefore fewer yards/m. per ball), has a bit more twist, and more sheen.
