This yarn is fairly lightweight and warm for a ribbon yarn. The ribbon is actually open between the two edges of the yarn. The fiber is open instead of woven in the middle. And this creates a loftier feel but also seems to make it a bit frosty, as noted. I didn't notice the frosty effect until I started knitting up my swatches. Even with the lofty feel and frosty effect, you still get fairly good stitch definition with this yarn. I would recommend it for simple or cabled patterns.
